Manicure Monday: Yana & Rocky

Zoya held an amazing promotion last month in honor of Earth Day. You could buy up to 24 new polishes for 50% off and send back some of your old polishes and Zoya would properly dispose of them for you. The polishes you returned could be from any brand, although they encouraged you to chuck those that weren't free of DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde (the three ingredients company's refer to when they say their polishes are 3-Free, in case you ever wondered). Zoya polishes boast a 5 Free formula that excludes the three just listed as well as formaldehyde resin and camphor - and they are vegan friendly.

I've been a Zoya fan for a while, so I ordered seven new polishes. (Yes, we've already established that I have nail-polish-purchasing control issues) Two of those polishes are from the new Stunning Summer 2013 Collection: Rocky and Yana.

I opted for the colors from the Stunning collection because my favorite nail polish finish is creme. I just prefer it to everything else. You get a gorgeous color in a beautiful, smooth finish. I gravitate to a creme polish over any other polish finish (although that's not to say I don't get others). The Stunning collection lives up to its name. It includes six brightly-hued, summer-appropriate colors all in a creme finish (don't worry, if you're partial to metallics, check out the Irresistible collection). Yana and Rocky did not disappoint. Rocky is a beautiful creamy blue with just the slightest hint of teal. Of course, my camera isn't picking up the green that I'm seeing in person but it's there (it also doesn't show in Zoya's swatches). Think of a much bluer version of China Glaze For Audrey. That kind of Tiffany green is in there, but this polish is still mostly blue.

Yana is a drop-dead gorgeous bright pink creme that Zoya describes as Geranium pink. Now that I've read that, I can't think of a better description. It's a perfect summertime pink for when you want a bold, bright color, but you're not looking to go neon.

It reminds me a little of Sinful Colors Thimbleberry (if you read this blog regularly you know it's one of my all-time favorite polishes, and I end up gravitating to polishes in this hue quite often), but Yana is more pink, while Thimbleberry is more of a coral-pink. Nordstrom's Bikini Pink is also in the same family, but it's slightly lighter and Yana is still more pink.

Both polishes have the quality I've come to expect from Zoya's formula: a smooth even application with excellent color pay off and a formula that't not overly thick.

Having these two polishes makes me wish I'd ordered the whole collection.
